The recent changes to SB 369 clarify the rules around annexing land to municipalities in Illinois. Specifically, now a piece of land that is separated from a city by a narrow strip, railroad, or trail can still be considered "contiguous" for annexation, making it easier for municipalities to expand their boundaries. This change is significant because it allows cities to incorporate areas that were previously hard to annex, potentially increasing their resources and services for residents.
