Plain-language change summary

The revised bill now specifies that the Director of the Cook County Department of Corrections can refer eligible defendants to the Accelerated Resolution Court, maintaining the requirement for notice to relevant parties. This change clarifies the referral process and reinforces communication between involved legal entities. Additionally, the criteria for defendants to be eligible for the program remain unchanged, continuing to focus on individuals who are in custody and unable to post bond due to specific circumstances. This matter is important as it aims to streamline legal proceedings for certain low-level offenses, potentially reducing overcrowding in jails and providing quicker resolutions for defendants.
