Plain-language change summary

The amended SB 2897 adds several new historic sites in Illinois, including locations significant to both the American Revolution and World War II. It also broadens the focus of the Amistad Commission, now renamed the Amistad and Freedom Trail Commission, to include the history and contributions of African Americans, alongside the African slave trade and the underground railroad. These updates are important because they help recognize and preserve diverse aspects of Illinois' history, ensuring that the contributions of underrepresented communities are acknowledged and celebrated.
