The recently amended SB 749 extends the repeal date of the Professional Geologist Licensing Act from January 1, 2016, to January 1, 2026. This means that the provisions of the act, which govern the licensing and practice of professional geology in Illinois, will remain in effect for another ten years. By delaying the repeal, it ensures that geologists can continue to be regulated and that qualified professionals are available to oversee geological practices, which is important for public safety and environmental management.
