The recent amendment to Bill SB 2294 removes the prohibition on carrying switchblade knives, which are knives that open automatically when a button or similar device is pressed. This change aims to modernize the legal definition of unlawful knife possession, as many argue that such knives are essentially tools rather than weapons. This matters because it could lead to more lenient laws for knife owners and reduce the number of individuals penalized for carrying these types of knives in Illinois.
