Plain-language change summary

The amendments to Bill HB 2174 replace the title with one that emphasizes the protection of certain statues, monuments, and memorials located on public property, specifically related to military, civil rights, natural disasters, and Native American events. The new section also allows citizens to petition for the removal of these items under certain conditions while preventing interference with the maintenance efforts by the responsible government entities. This change matters because it establishes clear guidelines for how historical items are treated, ensuring they are preserved while allowing for community input on their status.
