Plain-language change summary

The amended version of House Joint Resolution 28 now specifies that no person or healthcare provider in West Virginia shall take part in medically-assisted suicide, euthanasia, or mercy killing. Additionally, it clarifies that providing pain relief or withdrawing life-sustaining treatment, as requested by patients, is still allowed. These changes are significant as they refine the language to better reflect the intention behind the proposed amendment and emphasize the protection of patients' rights in end-of-life care, which will be presented to voters for approval in the next general election.
