The recent amendment to Bill HB 3092 introduces a new section that allows the Department of Corrections to make "Extra Help" appointments specifically for Corrections Nurse I and II positions. This change is significant as it enables the department to hire temporary nurses for unpredictable short-term needs without impacting regular staff, which can help address staffing shortages. Additionally, candidates for these temporary positions must still meet the same qualifications as permanent employees, ensuring that quality care standards are maintained. This flexibility could help improve overall healthcare services in correctional facilities.
