The bill SB 643 has introduced a key change by adding a new section that will repeal the Genetic Counselor Licensing Act on January 1, 2025. This decision to sunset the act means that the regulations governing genetic counselors will end, potentially impacting how these professionals are licensed and operate in the future. Additionally, the bill amends several existing sections of the Genetic Counselor Licensing Act, indicating updates to the definitions and requirements for genetic counseling practice. Overall, these changes may streamline the regulatory framework for genetic counselors, but could also raise concerns about oversight and standards within the profession.
