Plain-language change summary

The amendment to HB 1237 adds clearer definitions regarding mental health adjudications relevant to firearm ownership, defining terms like "has been adjudicated as a mental defective" to help determine when a person may be deemed unsafe to possess a firearm. This change aims to enhance public safety by ensuring that individuals identified as a danger to themselves or others are properly evaluated. Additionally, the amendment removes certain specifics from the Illinois Police Training Act related to the curriculum for police schools, focusing instead on more standardized training requirements without detailed course listings. This could streamline training for law enforcement, allowing for a more flexible approach in meeting educational standards.
