The recent amendment to SB 1047 updates the way counties can charge fees for automated court record-keeping systems. Specifically, it now allows county boards to set a court automation fee of between $1 and $15, which must be paid when initiating civil cases or in certain criminal cases. This change is important because it helps county clerks manage the costs of implementing necessary technology for more efficient court operations, ultimately aiming to improve the judicial process for everyone involved.
