Plain-language change summary

The amended version of Senate Bill 942 requires the state's Elections Commission to file a report every spring detailing any failures of various state departments—Transportation, Corrections, and Health Services—to comply with specific election laws over the past year. This new requirement aims to ensure accountability and transparency in how these agencies handle election-related responsibilities. Additionally, the Joint Committee on Finance (JCF) will have the power to take financial actions against these departments, including potentially reducing their budgets or positions if noncompliance is found. This change is significant because it emphasizes compliance with election laws and empowers the JCF to enforce accountability among state agencies.
