The recent amendment to SB 892 makes some changes to the composition and nomination process of the Property Valuation Training and Procedures Commission. Now, when appointing county assessors and commissioners, it clarifies that the nominations come from specific associations and emphasizes that preference should be given to those with relevant certifications. This change matters because it aims to ensure that the commission is made up of qualified individuals, which could lead to better property valuation practices in the state. Additionally, specifying that no more than two appointees can belong to the same political party helps promote diversity and bipartisanship on the commission.
