The recent amendments to Bill SB 883 adjust the process by which mine inspectors are appointed in West Virginia. Previously, appointments had to be made from an already certified list of qualified candidates, but now the director has the authority to appoint inspectors directly, establishing a probationary period for the new appointees. This change is significant because it allows for quicker appointments to fill essential roles, while still ensuring there is a mechanism in place for oversight and maintaining standards through a register of eligible candidates. Overall, these adjustments aim to improve the efficiency and flexibility of the hiring process for mine inspectors.
