Plain-language change summary

The bill HB 2939 has been amended to include a clearer definition of "extremely remote schools," which are schools located 20 travel miles or more from other educational institutions and serve at least 20 students. Additionally, the amendments provide specific support for these schools, including funding for building operations, preparation for extreme weather, and professional development for staff, while ensuring that no county board can close these schools. These changes aim to enhance the stability and resources available for schools in very isolated areas, which is important for ensuring that all students have access to quality education despite their geographical challenges.
