The amendment to SB 237 changes the rules regarding flying drones over correctional institutions. Originally, the bill allowed drone use only with permission from the secretary of corrections, but it has now been broadened to include authorization from the sheriff of a county for county facilities. This matters because it gives more flexibility for drone operations over different types of facilities, potentially benefiting activities like oversight or monitoring while ensuring security regulations remain in place.
