Plain-language change summary

The amendment to Bill SB 5384 simplifies the language regarding volunteer firefighters' duties and clarifies the conditions under which they can serve. It now allows volunteers to perform their roles whether or not they are paid while also requiring them to notify their employers about their volunteer status and secure necessary leave if needed. This change is important because it ensures a streamlined understanding of volunteer obligations, making it easier for volunteers to respond during emergencies without unnecessary barriers.
