The updated version of SB 6656 removes a requirement for the Department of Commerce to report on its activities related to international trade every two years. This means that while the department will still engage with key international markets to boost trade and investment for Washington companies, there will no longer be a formal obligation to provide lawmakers with a detailed summary of their outcomes and effectiveness. This change matters because it could reduce accountability and oversight of how public funds are used to promote international business opportunities.
