Plain-language change summary

The proposed amendment to Bill SB 264 focuses on how schools in Virginia handle and report student online activity data. Key changes include clearer definitions of what "student online activity data" entails and an emphasis on informing parents about the tracking and monitoring of their children's online behavior while using school devices. Additionally, the amendment eliminates the requirement for parental consent to monitor activity, which means schools can track online behavior without needing explicit approval from parents. These changes aim to ensure that parents are informed about their children's online activities in school while balancing monitoring efforts with privacy concerns.
