Plain-language change summary

The amended bill SB 33 changes how advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) operate in Virginia by allowing nurse practitioners to practice without a written or electronic agreement with a physician as long as they meet certain requirements. Additionally, the new language clarifies the definition of "supervision" for certified nurse anesthetists, specifying that it involves a licensed physician being present during procedures. This matters because it can increase the flexibility and autonomy of nurse practitioners, potentially improving access to healthcare in Virginia while maintaining necessary oversight for patient safety.
