The updated version of HB 5355 now allows both volunteer and part-volunteer fire companies, rather than just volunteer fire departments, to use funds from the Fire Protection Fund to cover expenses related to implementing the State Auditor's fiscal reporting system. This change recognizes the broader category of organizations eligible for support, making it easier for a larger number of fire departments to comply with new reporting requirements. By providing financial assistance for necessary technology and services, the amendment aims to reduce the financial burden on these essential community services.
