Plain-language change summary

The updated version of Bill SB 272 includes clearer language specifying that the ratios for instructional positions now include guidelines for English language learner (ELL) students. This change ensures that schools consider the needs of ELL students when determining teacher-to-student ratios, which is important for providing adequate support in diverse classrooms. It matters because effective teaching strategies for ELL students can significantly impact their learning and integration within the school system.
