Plain-language change summary

The amended version of Bill SB 688 expands the authority to both the Director of the Division of Forestry and the Director of the Division of Natural Resources, rather than just the Director of Forestry alone. This change allows both directors to enter contracts for managing state-owned forests and lands to help prevent wildfires. It matters because it broadens the scope of expertise involved in forest management and ensures a more comprehensive approach to wildfire prevention efforts. Additionally, it introduces a more competitive bidding process for handling land management, which could lead to better contract choices and accountability.
