Plain-language change summary

The latest version of HB 2865 introduces annual guidelines for families to understand what it means for children to be "kindergarten-ready." Previously, the bill proposed developing a parent guide focusing on various aspects of child development, but this has been replaced with specific kindergarten readiness criteria. This change matters because it directs public agencies to provide clearer, standardized information to parents and caregivers, helping them support their children better as they prepare for school. Ultimately, this aims to improve readiness and enhance educational outcomes for young children in Washington.
