The amendments to HB 2 update various sections of Virginia's gun laws, specifically targeting the purchase and possession of assault firearms and certain ammunition devices. New sections have been added to clarify regulations around surrendering firearms through buy-back programs, ensuring that localities engage in these programs only if they are voluntary and properly authorized. These changes are significant because they aim to enhance public safety while providing clear guidelines for local governments on how to handle firearms that are surrendered by citizens.
