Plain-language change summary

The changes to SB 5443 primarily focus on establishing the state board of registration for professional engineers and land surveyors as an independent agency, separate from the Department of Licensing. This matters because it allows the board to have greater control over its operations, standards, and regulatory processes, ensuring that the professionals in these fields are held to appropriate standards and that public safety is prioritized. Additionally, the amendments clarify the roles and responsibilities within the licensing process, which could improve the efficiency and accountability of engineering and surveying practices in Washington state.
