Plain-language change summary

The amended version of SB 8 allows individuals who are already notaries or electronic notaries in Virginia to apply for recommissioning online, in addition to in-person and mail submissions. It simplifies the process by eliminating the requirement to include an oath if the applicant is in good standing and has no pending investigations. This change matters because it makes the recommissioning process more accessible and efficient, encouraging more notaries to maintain their status without unnecessary obstacles.
