Plain-language change summary

The amended version of the bill has clarified the tax rate applied to deeds, maintaining a state recordation tax of 25 cents on every $100 of the property's value or the deed's consideration, whichever is higher. It also specifies that the tax only applies to the portion of property located within Virginia for deeds involving property that extends beyond state borders. Additionally, there is a fixed tax of 50 cents for recording a deed when a corporation changes its name. These changes aim to provide clearer guidelines for property transactions and to ensure that the tax system accurately reflects property values relevant to the state.
