The updated version of Bill SB 656 includes changes that clarify the timeline for employers to verify a potential employee's legal status. Now, employers must complete this verification before three days after the worker starts, rather than just before hiring them. This adjustment is important because it aims to ensure all workers are legally authorized to work promptly and to reduce the risk of unauthorized employment. Additionally, the list of acceptable documentation for verifying legal status has been refined for clarity.
