The recent changes to Bill SB 590 clarify the responsibilities of employers regarding costs related to the retirement system for 911 personnel. Now, employers must shoulder these costs based on the number of their employees who participate, ensuring that the burden is shared fairly. Additionally, some technical language was updated for clarity, making it clearer how service hours are calculated for retirement benefits. These changes are important because they aim to ensure that 911 workers receive fair treatment in their retirement planning while also protecting employers from unexpected financial liabilities.
