The updated version of Bill SB 293 increases the maximum fees that sheriffs can charge for serving various legal documents and processes—from $25 to $30 for most services related to tax sales and other actions. Additionally, it specifies that a larger portion of these fees will be directed to the Deputy Sheriff Retirement Fund. This change is significant because it helps ensure that sheriffs are adequately compensated for their work while also supporting retirement benefits for deputy sheriffs.
