What changed in the latest version
53 added · 52 removedPlain-language change summary
The updated version of Bill HB 2166 includes a clarification in the definition of "enterprise" to explicitly mention that it can include a "criminal street gang" and other organized groups aimed at criminal activities. This change is important because it broadens the scope of what constitutes a criminal enterprise under Virginia law, potentially leading to more effective prosecution of gang-related crimes. Additionally, the bill also specifies the types of offenses that fall under "racketeering activity," making it clearer what actions are prosecutable under this framework, which could help law enforcement in tackling organized crime more efficiently.
