The recent amendment to SB 1018 requires railroad companies in Virginia to notify several key state officials when they apply to the federal government for actions like merging or discontinuing services. This includes informing the Governor and various secretaries of relevant departments. This change is important because it ensures that the state government is aware of significant railroad changes, allowing them to prepare and respond appropriately to any impacts on transportation and communities.
