Plain-language change summary

The amendments to Bill HB 1524 establish a special fund called the Virginia Opioid Use Reduction and Jail-Based Substance Use Disorder Treatment and Transition Fund. This fund will collect appropriated funds, donations, and other contributions specifically for supporting addiction recovery programs in local jails. By ensuring that unused money remains in this fund instead of reverting to the general fund, the state aims to provide continuous support for these critical treatment efforts. This change matters because it enhances resources available for combating opioid addiction and improving rehabilitation efforts within jails.
