The revised version of SB 568 clarifies the role of the Dangerousness Assessment Advisory Board and ensures that its members operate independently of the Department of Health and Human Services. It now allows the board to provide its services to the courts upon request and enhances its operational support without giving the Secretary supervisory authority. Additionally, the updated bill specifies that board members should recuse themselves if they have previously assessed the individuals under review, aiming to uphold fairness in decision-making. These changes help to strengthen the board’s credibility and improve the assessment process for placements involving individuals who may pose a danger.
