Bill Text
What changed in the latest version
233 added · 225 removedPlain-language change summary
The updated version of Bill SB 1087 introduces a new chapter on genetic data privacy, defining key terms such as "biological sample" and "consumer." It notably removes the term "affirmative authorization," which previously required explicit consent from individuals to use their genetic data. This change is significant because it may affect how consumers can control the use of their personal genetic information, potentially giving companies more leeway in handling such data. The bill aims to enhance privacy protections for residents of Virginia concerning their genetic information.
