The recent amendment to Bill SB 490 clarifies the standards for class size in Virginia schools, specifying ratios for different grades while excluding special education teachers, principals, assistant principals, school counselors, and librarians from those calculations. Additionally, it requires schools to notify parents when class sizes exceed the established limits, including explanations and measures to address the situation. This change is important because it aims to promote better student-teacher ratios, ensuring that students receive more attention in classrooms, which could enhance their educational experience.
