The amended bill SB 468 clarifies the Virginia Retirement System's process for determining eligibility for disability benefits. It now specifies that the system must make a decision within 45 days of receiving all required information and notifies employers about benefits due within 15 days. Additionally, it introduces a requirement for individuals to renew their disability determination every two years, with a clear consequence that benefits may stop if they do not comply. These changes matter because they aim to streamline the eligibility process and ensure that benefits are managed efficiently while encouraging compliance from recipients.
