The updated bill requires Virginia hospitals to provide a public, easily accessible file on their websites that lists standard charges for all services. Additionally, it mandates that hospitals must give patients a payment estimate for elective procedures if requested at least three days in advance. These changes aim to improve price transparency in healthcare, helping patients make informed decisions about their medical expenses. Transparent pricing can empower patients to anticipate costs and potentially shop around for better rates.
