Plain-language change summary

The amendment to § 19.2-77 of the Code of Virginia allows an officer to pursue and arrest a person who escapes custody or flees from an arrest attempt anywhere in the Commonwealth. Previously, the officer could only make an arrest within one mile of the boundary of the county or city from which the individual fled. This change expands the area in which arrests can be made during close pursuit, potentially facilitating law enforcement's ability to apprehend fleeing suspects regardless of their location within Virginia.
