The recent amendment to Bill SB 675 clarifies the requirements for conducting criminal history checks before selling firearms. It emphasizes that sellers must verify a prospective purchaser's eligibility through a licensed dealer, ensuring they are not prohibited from owning a firearm. Moreover, it maintains the exception for firearm sales as part of authorized voluntary gun buy-back or give-back programs. This change is important as it aims to enhance public safety by ensuring thorough checks while still allowing flexibility for certain transactions.
