and WHEREAS,D First Baptist Church Mahan traces its roots to 1866 when a group of Suffolk residents banded together to form their own church community and held meetings at a house in the Cedar HiCl CemWHEREAS, in 1868, the circuit rider minister who led the group, Reverend Corprew, moved the E church to a two-room brick house on what is now the corner of North Main Street and Mahan Street, that had notably served as an impromptu headquarters for George Washington during the Revolutionary War;
