The amendment to § 32.1-258.1 allows for the issuance of a Certificate of Birth Resulting in Stillbirth for unintended intrauterine fetal deaths occurring after a gestational period of 20 weeks. It specifies that the requesting parent can choose to provide a name for the stillborn child but is not required to do so. Additionally, it clarifies that the Board of Health will set a fee for the certificate, which will apply retroactively to previous instances that meet these criteria. This change provides a formal recognition and documentation process for stillbirths.
