The recent changes to SB 5071 replaced the term "designation" with "award" in reference to the recognition for military-friendly school districts. This change emphasizes a more formal acknowledgment of schools that commit to supporting military families. Additionally, the focus has shifted slightly from just educational and social-emotional support to also highlighting the broader commitment school districts make to military-connected students and their families. These updates matter because they reinforce the intention to appreciate and support the unique challenges faced by students due to their military connections.
