The latest version of House Bill 1336 has clarified that the pension plan for volunteer firefighters and reserve officers will be split into two separate plans to meet federal tax requirements. This change is necessary because the current plan is not compliant due to the inclusion of reserve officers, which risks costly tax liabilities. By making this adjustment, both groups will still receive the benefits they are entitled to without disrupting their financial security. This is important for ensuring that they maintain their promised benefits while adhering to federal guidelines.
