Plain-language change summary

The amendments to SB 507 revise § 51.1-138 of the Code of Virginia regarding retirement benefits for certain employees. Notably, the amended text specifies that benefits may now be provided to employees in law-enforcement positions that are comparably hazardous to state police officers, alongside other specified positions, with an exception for certain benefits under § 51.1-209. This change clarifies which employees are eligible for retirement benefits equivalent to those of the State Police Officers' Retirement System.
