The updated bill SB 221 now clearly states that the Rockingham Circuit Court will create a pilot program for a searchable database of wills that can be stored securely by the court clerk. This database is designed to ensure the privacy of individuals' information while making it easier for the public to access important legal documents. It emphasizes the clerk's responsibility for covering all costs and requires a report of the project's findings by November 1, 2026. These changes matter because they improve transparency and access to legal resources while protecting sensitive personal information.
