The changes in Senate Bill 6198 involve modifications to the retirement board for law enforcement officers and firefighters. The new version specifies that the board now has the authority to hire staff without them having to be state employees under civil service rules, which streamlines the hiring process. Additionally, it requires the board to provide notice of salary changes to key legislative leaders, ensuring better transparency and oversight. These adjustments aim to make the retirement system more efficient and accountable.
