The amendment to HB 1736 introduces a new requirement for vehicle owners to report their annual odometer readings when registering their vehicles. This change aims to improve the accuracy of vehicle mileage data for better transportation planning and funding decisions in Washington state. Notably, the amendment clarifies that not providing an odometer reading will not prevent vehicle registration, which ensures that the process remains accessible for everyone. These changes matter because they help inform transportation policies while ensuring that registering a vehicle remains easy for all drivers.
