Plain-language change summary

The recent amendments to House Bill 1494 altered the rules regarding how district assessments are calculated, particularly for properties designated as forestland, farm, agricultural, or open space. Specifically, the bill removed a limit on the district budget for rehabilitation purposes, which previously capped expenditures at $1 per $1,000 of assessed property value unless approved by voters. This change allows districts greater flexibility in funding rehabilitation projects without needing voter approval, which could lead to more timely enhancements in communities.
